RecLineup, in plain answers

RecLineup is an app for the person who runs an adult rec sports team in Canada. It tracks who’s coming, finds a sub when you’re short, and keeps track of who owes what. Your players answer from a link in your team chat and never need the app.

What is RecLineup?

RecLineup is a team app for managers of adult recreational sports teams in Canada, such as beer-league hockey, slo-pitch and indoor soccer teams. It handles the weekly work of running a team: getting a headcount for each game, finding a spare when you’re short, keeping track of who owes what for the season, and rotating chores like bringing the bases or the game balls.

Do my players need to download the app?

No. Only the manager uses the app. Players answer from a link you drop in the chat your team already uses, with no app, no account and no password. Most of a roster never installs anything, and that is how it is meant to work.

How do players say whether they’re coming?

You copy a message with a link for the game into your team’s group chat. Anyone in the chat opens the link, says who they are, and taps In, Out or Maybe. Your headcount updates as they answer. It tells you whether you’re safe, tight or short for the number of players you need, and lists who hasn’t answered yet.

How does RecLineup find a sub when we’re short?

With one tap, the bat signal asks your spares, either the whole spare list or only the ones you pick, such as just the goalies. It reaches them three ways:

The first spare to claim gets the spot, and a spot can’t be given away twice. Anyone it couldn’t reach comes back to you as a named list, so nobody is missed without you knowing.

Does it work with WhatsApp, iMessage or Messenger?

The link works in any chat, so you can drop it into WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Telegram or a plain text. The bot that posts each game with In and Out buttons and keeps the count up to date is Telegram only.

Does it remind players?

If your team uses the Telegram bot, it replies under the game’s post the day before, naming who hasn’t answered. RecLineup does not send reminders by text message. Texts are used only to ask spares to fill a spot, and only for spares who said yes to that.

Can I collect team fees with it?

RecLineup keeps the record, not the money. You add a charge, such as ice time split evenly across the roster to the cent, and record payments as they come in. Each player can see their own balance from a link you send them. Players pay you the way they already do, usually an Interac e-Transfer. No money ever passes through the app.

How much does RecLineup cost?

$19.99 CAD per team for an eight-month season, bought once. It is not a subscription and it never renews on its own. Players never pay RecLineup anything. If you’d rather not cover it yourself, the app offers to put the $19.99 on the team’s tab split across the roster, which is about $1.25 each for sixteen players.

Is there a free trial?

There is a demo team instead of a free tier. Tap Try a demo team in the app to get a full roster, a season of games and every feature working, without signing up for anything. A demo team can’t message, text or post to real people.

Is it on iPhone?

Not yet. RecLineup is on Android through Google Play today, in open testing, and the iPhone app is not on the App Store yet. Your players don’t need either one, because the link opens in any phone’s browser.

What sports does it work for?

It is built around beer-league hockey, slo-pitch and indoor soccer, and works for any adult rec team with a roster and a schedule. You can paste in the season schedule your league emailed you, and the roster from a list.

Does it track standings, scores or stats?

No, on purpose. RecLineup is for running a team, not a league. Standings, scores and player stats are what your league’s own site is for.

I run a league. Is there anything for me?

There is nothing for a league to install, run or pay for. Managers sign up on their own. If you want fewer forfeits, the page for league operators explains how, and has a paragraph you can paste into your pre-season email.

Where is my team’s data stored?

Team data is stored in Canada. A few services the app relies on, such as Telegram and the app stores, operate outside Canada. The privacy policy lists each one and what it sees.

Who makes RecLineup?

Longarm Software Inc., a Canadian company in Ontario. Email support@reclineup.app and a person will answer.
